Olives

An interactive and engaging session celebrating the harvesting of olives in Autumn.

As the weather changes and the Autumn leaves begin to fall, we start to prepare for olive season and all it entails. At Big Pocket we offer a tried but true recipe for preserving green olives which has been handed down over the years.



So from sauce making we welcome in the olive season. This incursion is offered from April to late June, dependent on the weather and the supply of olives.

Each student is provided with


  • Cutting board
  • Knife
  • Green olives
  • 300ml jar
  • Bowls
  • Ingredients for the brine solution
  • Instruction on how to dress the olives once they are ready to eat
  • Tastings of green olives with traditional Italian crusty bread
  • An apron to wear during the incursion

Each teacher is with


  • A well organised, inspirational traditional Italian incursionĀ on making olives
  • An interactive hands on experience for the students where they carry out all stages for preserving olives

All students take their jar of olives home on the day to store for a minimum of 3 months in a cool, dark cupboard


Time Requirements


Kindergarten

Allow up to 90 minutes.

Primary Schools

Allow 50 – 60 minutes.

Secondary Schools

Allow a double period.

Preparation

Allow one hour to set up and
one hour to pack up.
