Italian Tomato Sauce


Passata di Pomodoro,
a celebration of summer.

A unique hands on, fully interactive experience which celebrates the annual coming together of the family to make their year’s supply of passata. It is available in February and March when the sauce tomatoes are in season and at their most flavoursome and freshest.



Choose from:

Passata di Pomodoro Incursion No. 1
Incursion for groups of up to 60 students, suitable for grade 5 and upwards.
Using one hand machine between 3 students.
Passata di Pomodoro Incursion No. 2
Incursion suitable for kindergarten groups, primary classes or extra large numbers up to 150 students per session and Italian Days.
Using traditional electric sauce machines.

Each student is provided with


  • Cutting board
  • Knife
  • Tomatoes
  • Bowls
  • 300 ml jar
  • Recipe for cooking passata di pomodoro
  • An apron to wear during the incursion.
  • A taste of cooked sauce served with traditional crusty Italian bread and parmesan cheese.

Each teacher is provided with


  • A well organised, inspirational, traditional Italian food incursion where all students experience first-hand how to make passata di pomodoro using the raw sauce method
  • A professional set up which can be conducted in various spaces from classrooms to halls
  • An incursion which supports and ties in with many different topics.

All jars are preserved on site ready for the students to take home the following day.


Time Requirements

Can cater for up to 150 students per session


Kindergarten

Allow up to 90 minutes.

Primary Schools

Allow 50 – 60 minutes.

Secondary Schools

Allow a double period.

Preparation

Allow one hour to set up and
one hour to pack up.
